lastminute.com, the online travel and leisure retailer, and envirofone.com, the mobile phone trading platform operated by Eazyfone Group, have joined forces to help promote mobile phone recycling and carbon management with the launch of an online phone recycling scheme. At the lastminute.com website, consumers can choose to trade in their unwanted mobiles for cash or donate them to help Climate Care to fund carbon offsetting projects.
Pete Petrondas, CEO of Eazyfone Group, said: “Hundreds of thousands of people use lastminute.com every day in the UK alone. Even if five per cent of them are encouraged to trade in their phones, this would already represent a large number of mobiles being re-used and diverted from landfill sites.”
Fraser Robinson, Commercial Managing Director of lastminute.com said: “Like our customers, we are aware of how travel impacts the environment. lastminute.com is committed to carbon neutrality, and as an online trader our carbon footprint is inherently low when compared to some parts of the travel industry. Offering our customers the ability to trade in their old mobile phones to fund carbon offsetting projects is one way of doing more for our environment.”
