British Gas has launched a new initiative to offer its customers the opportunity to offset the CO₂ emissions from their gas and electricity use.

The initiative, called Climate Aware, gives British Gas customers the chance to offset their emissions alongside offerings to reduce emissions - such as an energy efficiency audit and advice on not wasting energy.

Climate Care has developed a calculator for British Gas customers to work out the CO₂ emissions their gas and electricity use over the last year. Customers can then offset these emissions by making a payment to Climate Care who will fund fund CO₂ reductions projects on their behalf. Each customer that offsets their CO₂ with Climate Care will receive a certificate and further information about the offset projects.

British Gas are the first major UK energy company to encourage their customers to reduce and offset their emissions in this way, and we are delighted to be working with them.
